Security (BDS) team is seeking a Space Communications Systems
Engineer (Level 4 or 5) to join the team in El Segundo, CA. The
-Space and Launch -Team creates the next generation products and
services for the BDS business unit. We work with proprietary
customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in
space. - Our team -focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a
host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. -
Our group works all facets of engineering from technology
investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and
design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in
their relevant environments.The Lead/Senior Space Communications
Systems Engineer will be a part of a high-performing team that are
immersed in high intensity development projects. As a member of our
team, you will have the opportunity to design, develop, and deliver
state-of-the-art communication systems for space-based applications
for commercial, civil and/or national security programs. This
position will work with a highly-motivated team that works with
domestic or international customers on their latest satellite
systems. This role project assignments typically span the complete
program life cycle, from internal trades, concept studies and
system definition, to satellite development, launch, and on-orbit
operations and test.Position Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of next generation RF, digital,
and/or optical satellite communications systems and payload
architectures
- Lead trade studies
- Own end-end analyses for the end-end communications link
- Partner with customers on system of systems solutions
- Lead the definition and verification of space communication
system requirements and interfaces
- Perform system-level CONOPS development, functional analysis
and decomposition
- Lead system-level integration and validation
- Lead performance of analyses and simulations for space
communication systems, including: link analysis, signal distortion,
system capacity, reliability, and performance
- Develop analysis tools using MATLAB and object-oriented
software platforms
- Develop and verify system algorithms that meet functional and
performance requirements
- Perform hardware procurement, design reviews, and unit
sell-off
- Perform system test preparation, execution, troubleshooting,
and verification
- Support stakeholder needs through analysis, technical
performance measures (TPM) definition, requirements analysis, and
allocation & definition for subcontractors, utilizing Cameo, JIRA
and ConfluenceThis position is expected to be 100% onsite. - The
selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed
location. This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security
Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance
that has been active in the past 24 months is considered
active)Special Program Access or other Government Access
Requirements are mandatory for this position. Basic Qualifications
(Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an
accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science,
mathematics, physics or chemistry
- 5+ years of Systems Engineering on aerospace platforms or
similar highly regulated products
- 5+ years of systems engineering experience involving system
requirements, functional decomposition and allocation, integrated
design, analysis, and verification
- 5+ years of experience with digital communications systems
design and analysis, subsystem or units
- 5+ years of experience in customer requirements development,
system requirements, and CONOPs development
- Occasional domestic travel will be requiredPreferred
Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Level 5: 10 or more years' related work experience or an
equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience with digital communications
- Experience with satellite or terrestrial communications systems
and antenna theory
- Experience with Matlab/Simulink and C++
- Experience utilizing Model Based Engineering (MBE or MBSE)
tools
- Experience working across multiple disciplines in a rapid
development environmentTypical Education/Experience:Lead (Level 4)
- - - Bachelor's degree and typically 9 or more years' experience
in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with
typically 7 or more years' experience in an engineering
classification or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years'
experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or
Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in
engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation
standard.Senior (Level 5) - - - Education/experience typically
acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited
course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics,
physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more
years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of
technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work
experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA,
ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required,
accreditation standard.Relocation:This position offers relocation
